Adolescent & Teen Therapy
Understanding the unique needs of younger clients, Aileen offers therapeutic
services specifically designed to help adolescents. Given
that younger clients frequently have difficulty putting their feelings
into words, teens and adolescents require therapists who understand and
specialize in their developmental and emotional needs.
Therapy with adolescents can take a variety of forms. Frequently
adolescents will often engage in more traditional “talk
therapy,” but specialized techniques may be used to help create an easier
way for him/her to relate to the therapist.
Additionally, Aileen will also work in collaboration with the child’s
parents, gathering relevant information and suggesting possible behavior interventions
at home. If additional services are needed, such as medication
or further evaluations, appropriate referrals will be offered.
Types of issues addressed and treated with adolescents in therapy:
- Self esteem, self image
- Relationships with parents, sibling rivalry, romantic relationships and friendships
- Peer pressure, “fitting in”, identity issues
- Academic difficulties
- Decreasing and eliminating self harm, suicidality, addiction
- Anxiety, depression, panic disorder
- Prosocial behaviors
- Family stressors and changes
- Cultural, bi-cultural issues and pressures
- Effects of divorce, remarriage of parents
